Grade : 3  Rocks and Minerals

Stage 1 - Desired Results

Established Goals:
Students will record observations using captioned pictures an charts using  computer resources.
Students will describe the properties of a rock or mineral by using the following words; colour, lustre, texture, hardness, presence of carbonates and crystal shapes.

Enduring Understandings:
Students will understand that rocks and minerals have different properties.
Concept of classification.

Essential Questions:
Why do we organize and classify objects?

Students will know and be able to:
* Knowledge of the rock property terminology.
* Knowledge of various types of rocks and minerals.

Stage 2 - Assessment Evidence

Performance Task(s)
You have been hired by a trading card company to create a series of cards that will inform students on various rocks and minerals Your cards must include information about the  color, luster, texture, location and, interesting facts about your rock or mineral.

Your project will be marked according to a rubric.

Computer lab
Class 1: Review Logon and off. Drag Inspiration document into personal folder. Follow links from Inspiration. Begin gathering information. Save.

Class 2: Logon. Continue gathering information. Save.

Class 3: Logon. Complete information gathering. Print out outline from.

Students use information gathered to write out sentences during classtime. Use trading card template to write out text.

Class 4: Logon. Drag trading card template to private folder. Show how to copy and paste pictures.
Begin typing in information.

Class 5-6: Complete card. Dupilicate on secong trading card. Print
