Grade 4: English Language Arts
Choose Your Own Adventure-Students will create a “choose your own adventure” story.  The story will be done using Appleworks for the composition, and Hyperstudio for the production.  They will have to plan the paragraphs and the accompanying images using Inspiration.

Grade 4: English Language Arts
Castles_and_Kings -You are a character living in medievial time (king, queen, knight, nobleman, peasant, or merchant in the 11th century). You have been transported to the 21st century and must present your way of life through a slideshow to grade 4 students and their parents.

Grade 4: Language Arts / Health
Father's Day Collector Cards The students will create a  collector’s edition card describing their Father according to specific criteria.

DangerousEnvConditions -You are part of a team of experts who are going to be deployed to various schools in GSACRD to inform the Grade 4 students about how to keep safe if they are faced with a dangerous situation related to an environmental condition. You will be using a slide show to enhance your oral presentation. You will be evaluated using the rubric provided to you.

Grade 4: Language Arts
LetterWriting -The students will complete a business letter, addressing the situation being presented.  The business letter will demonstrate all the needed parts with correct formatting. Students will also demonstrate how to address an envelope.


Grade 4: Social Studies: Topic C: Alberta: A Comparative Study with Quebec
Bonjour-You will be doing a project on Topic C: Alberta: A Comparative Study With Quebec.  You will do these 3 sections: a. Research Information  b. Organize Information  c. Present Information .(postcard)
You will learn how to write an informative and interesting postcard.
You will learn how to correctly address a postcard.
A Francophone student attending EFJ will come for a visit near the end of the project to answer questions about her home province. A friend will also be there to help with the translation.

Grade 4: Social Studies: Topic C: Alberta: A Comparative Study with Quebec
Alberta Travel Brochure-You work for Alberta Tourism and you have been asked to produce an informative brochure on an Alberta region.

Grade 4: Social Studies: Topic C: Alberta: A Comparative Study with Quebec
A Comparison of Alberta and Quebec-You will be doing a group project on Topic C: Alberta: A Comparative Study With Quebec.  
        You will do these 3 sections:
                a. Research Information  
                b. Organize Information  
                c. Present Information (slide show).

Grade 4: Social Studies: Topic A: Alberta: Its Geography and People (Exemplaires en français disponibles)
Alberta Regions- You are a Conservation Officer  and you must present a slideshow to your fellow Albertans about one of the five landforms in Alberta.  You will be showing them where it is located, what natural resource(s) are in this region, which town or city might occupy it, and if there are any lakes and rivers passing through it.

Alberta Geography -You are a Conservation Officer  and you must present a slideshow to your fellow Albertans about one of the five landforms in Alberta.  You will be showing them where it is located, what natural resource(s) are in this region, which town or city might occupy it, and if there are any lakes and rivers passing through it.

Grade 4: Social Studies/Science/Religion
Alberta: Land Use, Resources and Industry- You will create a slide show on Alberta’s natural regions. For each of these 5 regions, you will find a picture of its land form, vegetation and animal(s). You will also describe how this regions natural resources are used.

Grade 4: Social Studies:
Family History-You are a historian and you will be gathering information on the history of your family. Our class will be collecting this information, developing a database, organising the data into given categories, and creating a comprehensive class booklet. We will then be able to draw conclusions and possibly make some predictions.

Grade 4: Social Studies:Topic B: Alberta: Its People in History
Alberta Explorers Trading Cards - Our class has been hired by a ‘trading card’ company to create a series of Alberta Explorer trading cards.

Grade 4: Social Studies:Topic B: Alberta: Famous Albertans
FamousAlbertans - You are part of a team working for the Heritage Museum in St. Albert. You have to prepare a presentation, including a slideshow portraying one famous Albertan. The slide show must include biographical information (date of birth and death), time period of influence, ethnic origin, occupation, area of province they influenced, who's lifestyle was affected and how was it affected. You can have your famous Albertan travel through a time machine and speak to the audience or simply present the slideshow as museum curators. You will be evaluated using the provided rubric.

Grade 4: Social Studies: Topic C
Alberta-Quebec Links-The grade 4’s will work with a partner to create and design a slideshow in the form of an ABC book to showcase the lInks between Alberta and Quebec.

Grade 4: Science: Plant Growth and Changes
Plant Parts-Students will create a trading card showing their assigned plant part. This card must contain a picture, and an overview of the function of the particular assigned part. Some documents available in French.

(1) a web (using Kidspiration graphic organizer) of information about plants in general   
(2) A trading card about a specific plant with a painted picture and information
Your work will be evaluated using the rubric provided.

Grade 4: Religion and Language Arts
Come and See-You will create a newsletter to help our students and their families to learn how to read the signs of God’s Kingdom.

Grade 4/5: Science:
Inventors-create a trading card on an Inventor.

4e année: Etudes Sociales: Sujet A: Alberta
Ressources naturelles -Bonjour! Tu travailles pour le gouvernement de l’Alberta. Tu fais partie d’une équipe qui doit sensibiliser les gens de l’Afrique à l’importance des ressources naturelles dans un pays qui se développe. Tu dois être précis dans ta recherche et bien organisé.






Grade5: Social Studies:
Explorers - The children will be doing a project on a specific Canadian explorer with the people in their group.  The project will have 3 sections to it.  The 1st section will be research that will answer questions about the individual explorer.  The 2nd section will be to create a slide show using the information the students gathered.  The 3rd section will be a presentation of the slide show

Grade5: Social Studies:
Canadian Regions - You will be doing a group project on Topic A Canada: It’s geography and People. You will do these 3 sections: a. Research Information  b. Organize Information  c. Present Information (slide show).

Grade5: Social Studies:
Weather_Watch_Hyperstudio - You are a weather scientist and you must prepare a multi-media presentation to inform your classmates on certain weather conditions.
You will identify and explain at least 3 different components of a weather system in a chosen/given image.
You must describe each weather component, how it is formed and how to protect from it (clothing, shelter, etc)
The student documents and samples are available in French as well.


Grade5: Social Studies: Topic B
ADayInTheLifeOf - Students will research the lifestyle of a specific Native tribe and describe the way of life of this group of people. They will demonstrate an understanding of the time period of Canada before settlement. They will simulate a situation where they find themselves visiting a Native village and living with the Native tribe for the period of 1 year. Students will scrapbook the events of their daily life throughout the seasons, including celebrations and religious ceremonies.
The student documents and samples are available in French as well.


5e année: Études Sociales:
La geographie et les gens - Apres avoir fait un collage d’une région physiogéographique du Canada,  compléter une base de donnée de chaque région et de chaque province, tu compléteras une brochure pour convaincre quelqu’un de venir visiter ta région physiographique. La structure de la brochure sera ton modèle et ton information viendra de tes recherches et des recherches de tes partenaires.  Des exemples seront  disponibles.

5e année: Études Sociales:
Le_Canada_d'autrefois - Vous êtes un spécialiste d'histoire, vous devez préparer une présentation de Hyperstudio à vos collègues. Il faut choisir un groupe Européen (les traiteurs de fourrures, les Colons, les Explorateurs, ou les Missionnaires) et discuter:
les raisons de l'exploration
le peuplement
le mode de vie
l'influence de la géographie
les difficultés auxquelles ils ont fait face
Les contacts entre les Autochtones et votre groupe ont eu des avantages et des inconvénients pour les autochtones. Décrivez-les.

5e année: Études Sociales:
Canada_RegionsPolitiques_Geographiques - Tu prétends que tu as fait un voyage à un endroit spécifique au Canada. Lors de ton voyage, tu découvres les caractéristiques de ce territoire. Tu vas altérer une photo pour montrer que tu étais à cet endroit. Tu produiras une carte postale de cet endroit avec toi dessus. En utilisant ce que tu sais, tu écriras une carte postale à des parents ou amis chez toi. Dans ton message, tu dois décrire la région, ce que tu as vu, vécu, selon l’endroit où tu es.


Grade5: Science:
Chemistry - Students will create a slideshow to describe the properties and interactions of various household liquids and solids, and interpret their interactions.

Grade5: Science:
WetlandBrochure-The student will create a brochure outlining importants aspects of wetlands, including types of wetlands, roles wetlands play, types of life found in a wetland, things humans do to threaten wetlands, and things we can do to preserve and enhance wetlands





Grade 5/6: Science: Weather Unit
WeatherTradingCard -There are various different weather phenomena and conditions that exist in Alberta. Your job is to investigate an assigned aspect of weather and provide your classmates with a visual and pictorial representation of your weather phenomena.  You will create a trading card from a template to share your findings.

Grade 5/6: Math and Social Studies:
Statistics-Gather relevant data about:St. Albert demographics (for one class) or Canada (for the other class), from electronic or print sources. You will create a multimedia presentation explaining various types of information about the above to your classmates. You will make conclusions and or recommendations, predictions about your topic, according to the data you have.

Grade 6: Science: Sky Science:
SkySciencePowerPoint -You are instructors at the Edmonton Odyssium and you must present specific information about your topic to the visiting classes using PowerPoint as a multimedia presentation tool.
You must represent your topic in a visual manner, going in-depth as much as possible.  You must use examples and details, connecting your topic to our life on Earth.

Grade 6: Social Studies: Government Unit
NeedNotMet-Commercial -Students realize that not all human needs are being met by the government. Their job is to convince the public, through a commercial, to become involved in lobbying the government for a change.

 Grade 6: Social Studies: Government Unit
TheGovernment-The students will be assigned roles to learn how a Bill is passed and made into Law. The Specific bill will be an increase in the GST. This tax helps the government meet some of the needs of the citizens of Canada. The performance task will be to create short IMovies to demonstrate each step of the process of passing a Law and who is involved. Children will organize, practice and perform each section. Then all sections will be presented in order so students see it overall.

Grade 6: Social Studies: Government Unit
Local_Government_WebPage - You are a concerned citizen about an issue in your community. Your role is to convince responsible citizens that your issue needs their involvement and that they can help you influence the local government. You will build a web page to attract, inform, and convince people to do what your are asking them to.

Grade 6: Social Studies: China
ChinaStudy -You are a part of a team of reporters collecting information on the lifestyle of the Chinese. You are to prepare an oral presentation, supported by a slide show.


Grade 6: LA 6: Poetry Represented Through iMovie:
PoetryiMovie -You are presenting a poem you like to your peers in class. You have to convey its feelings, theme and meaning through an iMovie. You must show your understanding of some of the figurative language or your interpretation of the writer's message by carefully choosing images and music, as well as visual effects. You must choose a poem from the list provided.


Grade 6: LA 6: Advertizing Campaign:
Advertizing_Campaign -Students will create a product for sale in China. They will create an ad campaign and present a portfolio in a multimedia format that will convince clients that the campaign will work, resulting in large sales of their
product.

Grade 6: Science 6: Air & Aerodynamics Power Point:
AirAerodynamics -Students to create a 8-10 slide Powerpoint presentation outlining and detailing a given SLE from the Air and Aerodynamics unit. Students are trying to inform other students about the learner expectation they have been given.  Their situation will also vary from group to group depending on the role they have been given for this assignment. Audience will include many different groups of people. It will include our own grade 6 class as each group will need to answer questions about other groups' slideshows. It will also include the grade 5's in our school, as we will be showing our slideshows to them as an introduction to Science next year.  Also, each role that is given to a group will involve an audience - it could be a team from National Geographic, or a gameshow host, etc.
