How does the character’s actions, thoughts, feelings, and what they say affect events of the story?
Students will know:
The main character’s attributes and characteristics
The plot of the story
Cause and effect
Students will be able to:
Identify the characters’ , values, actions, thoughts, feelings, and speak as causes that influence the outcomes of the novel
Realize that each cause will have an effect
Explain points of cause and effect from the novel
Realize the complexity of the main character.
Create a multimedia presentation using either PowerPoint, AppleWorks or Hyperstudio
Use inspiration application to create a character web
Stage 2 - Assessment Evidence
Your task is two fold!
First you must create a web of your character. Show two examples each of the character’s values, thoughts, feelings, actions and what the character says. Once you have done this, branch off of each item and show what the effect of each action, thought, feeling or speak was. Please be sure to include page number from each cause and each effect.
The second part of the project is to create a multimedia project that shows your ideas about cause and effect.
Other Evidence (Quizzes, test, etc)
Rate their level of understanding of cause and effect
Rate the level of comfort and enjoyment with inspiration
Rate their level of comfort and enjoyment with multimedia applications
Identify and explain areas of improvement
Stage 3 - Learning Plan
Teaching and Learning Activities
1.Allow students time to self discover inspirations and a multimedia application
2.Using the inspiration application create a web with five main branches.
Cause 1. Character’s actions
Cause 2.Character’s feelings
Cause 3.Character’s thoughts
Cause 4.Character’s values
Cause 5.What the character says
3.Extend each of the five branches to show what the effect of each cause was. Students will need to include page numbers for each link
4.Begin multimedia presentation of 11 pages or cards
5.Main page will a character sketch of the character. It will have 5 button links for all five causes
6.Each of these 5 cards will list and describe the cause and link to another card including the effect.
7.All cards must include:
Appropriate page numbers
A visual aid
A clear description of either the cause of effect in text
