Stage 1 - Desired Results
Below is a pdf file identifying all of the ICT outcomes touched on throughout this project. Click on the file to download it to your computer.
-Measurements, patterns and procedures involving areas, perimeters, and procedures.
1. How can you calculate the areas of squares, rectangles and triangles.
2. To represent these area measurements as a scale drawing.
Students will know:
Understanding of the mathematical formulas for computing area measurements
-Understanding of scale drawings
Students will be able to:
-Make a blueprint drawing of a yard with structures placed on the drawing to scale.
Stage 2 - Assessment Evidence
You have been hired to design your dream home on a specified lot. How much sod must you purchase and what is the cost?
Other Evidence (Quizzes, test, etc)
Stage 3 - Learning Plan
Teaching and Learning Activities
-Introduce project using overhead
-Handout project outline to students
-Review area calculations
-Brainstorm ideas of what structures can be placed on the lot
-Make a rough draft on paper
-Point out that they will need: title, a legend, two tables (legend and area calculations) and scaled yard.
Set up blue print:
-AppleWorks 6<Drawing program
-Format<Document. Change page across and down to 2. Observe that when you go to Window<Page view, you see how these pages will be printed. Make sure your tables are not being cut off.
-Format<Rulers<Ruler Settings. Choose centimetres.
-Open Toolbox. Use Table Tool (it looks like a window)
-Start with 2 columns and 10 rows.
-Table<Insert or delete cells
-Go to page view sometimes to make sure your tables are not on separate pages.
-Do not bother with colours as you are printing in black and white.
-Review how to make shapes, use shift for circle and square.
-Add Fill from tool box
-Get exact measurement of objects by going to Options<Object Size
-Create a Text box. Type in measurement. Move box to correct location.
